Our Mission & Approach
Sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India, the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit at Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty College has been active since the college's inception. Our unit motivates students toward social responsibility, community service, and civic awareness.
NSS volunteers are encouraged to develop their personality through community service. By engaging in various community development initiatives and camps, students learn leadership skills, group dynamics, national integration, and practical problem-solving.

Special Camp Projects
Every year, a 7-day residential camp is held in a local village or community center. Volunteers carry out projects like school playground leveling, compound wall construction, and road laying, actively working to improve local infrastructure.
Core Pillars & Focus
Community Welfare
Engaging in physical labor and infrastructure improvement projects such as road repair, ground leveling, school compound construction, and village cleaning.
Environmental Care
Conducting extensive tree plantation drives (500+ trees planted), participating in lake rejuvenation projects, and raising awareness about rainwater harvesting.
Health & Life Saving
Promoting and hosting regular voluntary blood donation camps, conducting village demographic and needs-based surveys, and supplying Covid-19 relief kits.
Social Awareness
Instilling road safety guidelines, holding anti-drug campaigns, conducting digital literacy workshops, and coordinating voter registration campaigns.

NSS Inauguration Programme
Annual NSS activities inaugurated by Sri. Sunder Merra, Principal, Hindu Junior College, Shirva.
Adoption of Lakes and Ground Water Recharge Programme
An MOU was signed between the NSS Unit, Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty College, Shirva and Shirva Grama Panchayath for the adoption of lakes and ground water recharge initiatives, promoting youth empowerment and environmental sustainability.
Lake Adoption and Groundwater Recharge Programme
Sri. Eshwar Malpe, Underwater Expert and Social Activist, Udupi, was the Chief Guest and addressed the gathering. Smt. Savitha, President, Shirva Grama Panchayath, and Sri. Anantha Padmanabha, Panchayath Development Officer, Shirva, were present.
One-Day NSS Camp at Sri Subramanya Temple, Sooda
A One-Day NSS Camp was organized at Sri Subramanya Temple, Sooda. NSS volunteers actively participated in various activities during the camp.
Awareness Programme on Digital Pollution: “Digital Pollution: How Technology is Destroying the Planet and How to Fix It”
Lion Prashath Shrama, Lions Club Bappanadu, delivered an informative session on digital pollution and its environmental impacts. Lion Venkatesh Hebbar, Charter President, Lions Club Bappanadu, was the Guest of Honour.
Participation in Yuva Apada Mithra Training Programme
Ms. Apeksha (II B.Com), Ms. Shreyas (II B.A.), and Mr. Varun (II B.Com) participated in the Yuva Apada Mithra Training Programme held at Yenepoya University, Deralakatte, Mangalore.
Participation in National Service Yojanothsava
Kum. Apeksha (II B.Com) represented Mangalore University at the National Service Yojanothsava held at Akka Mahadevi Women’s University, Vijayapura.
NSS Annual Special Camp Inauguration
Smt. Srilatha, Child Development Project Officer, Department of Women and Child Development, Karkala, and the Administrative Officer of Kalya Gram Panchayat inaugurated the NSS Annual Special Camp by lighting the ceremonial lamp.
Ambedkar Jayanthi Celebration
As part of the NSS Special Camp activities, Ambedkar Jayanthi was celebrated in association with Government Higher Primary School, Kalya, Karkala Taluk.
Awareness Rally and Street Play
An Awareness Rally (Jatha) and Street Play were conducted highlighting Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s principles, social justice, equality, and drug awareness. The rally passed through various parts of Kalya village, spreading awareness among local residents.
HIV/AIDS Awareness Programme
Mrs. Vasanthi, Counsellor, ICTC, Community Health Centre, Shirva, served as the Resource Person and delivered an awareness session on HIV/AIDS.

Voluntary Service
NSS is a voluntary program. Certification is awarded to volunteers who complete the required hours of regular service and participate in the annual special camp.
